A Tough Decision Ahead For Callie…

We the loyal audience sat on the edges of our seats as we watched the chemistry explode between Callie and Erica in the Season 4 Finale. Now my every thought is overrun with the possibilities for this relationship. Is it a one night stand or will we see Callie delve into the unknown?? And watch Shonda bring a lesbian relationship to a new television level?
Here we have Mark… the divine and delicious McSteamy!

Oh boy… He has heated up our screens, almost to boiling point! He’s suave, he’s saucy, he’s just as his nick name describes, Steamy, and he certainly catches Callie’s attention. The poor thing, how could she resist this man? I know I couldn’t! And I know that the next time I walk past an on call room of ANY description, I won’t help but get a little hot and flustered myself!
From their first meeting in a bar that got all ‘dirty and bad’ in a good way, to many encounters in the on call room of Seattle Grace, their relationship has been more than just hot hot hot! Callie has been able to open up to Mark and divulge to him some of her deepest and most intimate thoughts. Who would have thought that McSteamy would also be a great listener and friend?
Then along came her first encounter with Erica in the elevator, their first “introduction” of sorts, the beginning of something special. Could you pick at that very moment, that things were going to eventuate the way they have? Honestly, I could. All I saw were sparks were flying in every direction. It certainly didn’t take long for their chemistry to really shine through. Showing when Addison arrived back in town, just how special their connection really was, a beautiful friendship between two women that only women can truly understand, but had others wondering if there was something more. McSteamy was getting flustered thinking of threesomes, Callie was getting flustered and declaring to Addison:
“I love penis!! I’m a huge huge fan of penis!”

…..and Erica, well we really didn’t see much into her line of thinking, but we knew she declared to Yang that she wouldn’t be able to seduce her like her previous Cardiac Superiors, because:
“I date men.”
But we just knew that she was in for the ride! Or was she actually the driving force?
Then came the elevator scene with all three…OH the elevator! Really a place of divine intervention wouldn’t you say? What a turning point for Callie that was! The kiss between her and Erica was enough to drive McSteamy to blow a fuse and rush to the on call room for some care and attention and Callie to be left standing there, confused, shocked but yet somewhat turned on.
From McSteamy’s dirty Erica girl talk in the on call room to mentions of twister while Erica and Callie were up close to one another while working on cement boy, Callie was in a spin of momentous emotions! Could she really be feeling these things towards her close friend? But she was a huge fan of penis, right? McSteamy said it all so well though…
“It’s ok Callie. I wish I was all someone thought about.”
Then came the poignant moment outside Seattle Grace, where McSteamy told Callie to finish what she started while looking over at Erica. At that moment, Callie heads towards Erica with her heart no doubt in her mouth and could barely speak before kissing Erica with the passion and desire of a love like no other.
With this ‘burning fire of passion’ ending to the beginning of Callie and Erica’s relationship in Season 4, I hope to see a special and serious relationship evolve in Season 5 and Shonda to really delve into the caring and loving side of these two women. Please Shonda, no pregnancy for Callie ok?? And one has to wonder too, how will George take the news that Callie is with Erica? What do you think he will do?
Well I’m off to get my daily fix of Grey’s to numb the pain of waiting for Season 5 to explode on our screens. Anyone want to join me??

I absolutely adored your excellent brief on Callie & Erica’s relationship development (with the ocassional, but nevertheless important involvement of McSteamy on the outcome), but you definitely owe us a photo of Erica! (or Callica, for that matter) Where is it??? I graciously demand picture addendum!

Okay am I the only one who remembers the tension between Sloan and Hahn in the episode Lay Your Hands On Me? They were the couple to watch until Shonda decided to get all “experimental”. Putting a gay character into the mix does not bother me, but abandoning a potentially great storyline (McSteamy torn between two friends)for a ratings grabbing female on female kiss bothers me.
Hi Yolanda. You make a great point! And that’s the great thing about Shonda, she always delivers beyond the norm!
In saying that though, things could go two ways couldn’t they. While here I’ve explored the possibility of a relationship with Erica, which is my personal preference, what’s to say Shonda doesn’t spin it back to one of them being with McSteamy!? I really hope they make this couple work as you just don’t get a real feeling of people wanting to keep lovers togother any more it is all sad endings and i really finally want to see a couple last the test of time and i would love for that couple to be callie and erica
