Grey’s Anatomy Recap:  “Walking on a Dream” Season 9 episode 12

By Natalie Abrams

Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was, in the most imperceptible of ways, a real turning point for the surviving members of the plane crash that ultimately cost Lexie and Mark their lives and left Arizona, Cristina, Meredith and Derek — and in some ways, Callie, too — irreparably damaged.

During the hour, Meredith, while dealing with pregnancy hormones, was faced with the prospect of getting on a plane again. Initially hesitant, she persevered and got on a small plane similar to the one they crashed in — and did so without freaking out. For Derek, it was his first successful surgery since getting his hand back in working shape. Cristina, having healed long ago, was able to show compassion for Alex’s program — even if it’s because she wants to do more fun operations.

I was really, really proud of Mer for getting on that plane.  At the same time, I didn’t want her to!  I don’t want McBaby in any kind of possible harmful situation.  I have to say, though, that of all the new interns I just love Ross.  Maybe it’s because I was a big Friday Night Lights Fan & he was terrific on that.  For those of you that saw him on that show you know what a change of character this is.  On FNL he was brash, flash & arrogent.  They called him Smash!  He is nothing like that on Grey’s, in fact he’s a teeny bit like George and I adored George.  Are you enjoying any of the new interns in particular?  Talk below.

xoxo McSunny

  1. I don’t really care about the interns but if I choose one, it is Heather Brooks. She kind of reminds me of Meredith so I immediately liked her. In case you can’t tell, I love Meredith! And I love Derek! I love them together. I am also open to Alex and Jo. I’d like to see how it plays out and if they have the chemistry that he had with Izzie.

  2. Cristina telling Meredith that “babies are God sent” upset me a little.. I mean I’m pro-choice and everything, but after the whole ordeal, I doubt that you could be so insensitive towards the issue, as to make jokes about it, or play with Zola all goo-goo and gah-gah when your heart-broken hubby is watching..
    Just saying…

  3. First, this episode was great…all around great!!
Lots of things to like: (1) Derek’s successful
surgery with “Callie’s hand.” (2) A resolution for
Arizona’s pain by the end of the episode (great job by Jessica C.), and more visible progress for Calzona. (Always like Sara Ramirez, who can do no wrong, in my book). (3) The new Cristina being her old self, funny stuff w/excellent delivery. (4) Meredith overcoming a fear (agree w/McSunny about this). (5) This was my favorite Dr. Hunt episode ever, inexplicably…it just was! (6) Constance Zimmer was awesome! (did not even know who she was before this) Can’t wait to see what eye-popping solutions Dr. Cahill proposes.
Surely…surely, the hospital will remain operational, and surely with an ER, or semi-ER?
Likeability rating of interns: 1) Jo and Stephanie 2) Heather and Leah 3) Shane…as of today…which is subject to change with the next episode. They’re all new faces to me, and I do like all of them.
