Grey’s tops the DVR listings.

By Metriosity | November 11, 2009 |

Greys Anatomy has hit the top of the DVR playback ratings for the fall season to date. I vaguely recall reading an article saying that Grey’s was a drowning ship. I guess the numbers showing people recording episodes and playing them back shows otherwise!

Take a looksie

1. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
2. The Office (NBC)
3. Criminal Minds (CBS)
4. The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
5. Private Practice (ABC)
6. Flash Forward (ABC)
7. NCIS (CBS)
8. Desperate Housewives (ABC)
9. Glee (Fox)
10. CSI: Miami (CBS)
11. NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS)
12. Castle (ABC)
13. The Good Wife (CBS)
14. Modern Family (ABC)
15. CSI: NY (CBS)
16. House (Fox)
17. Heroes (NBC)
18. Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
19. 30 Rock (NBC)
20. Law & Order (NBC)
21. Numb3rs (CBS)
22. Cougar Town (ABC)
23. The Ghost Whisperer (CBS)
24. Medium (CBS)
25. Survivor: Samoa (CBS)

So Gabblers, how many of you watch the episodes live? Or do you record them? Do you watch live streaming feeds or… Dun dun duuuunn…. Do you have to wait until the season airs in your country? Let us know your viewing routines for Greys…. Hmm… Routines! Lets hear about those too!

I’ll go first. Gag the kid. Turn off the phone as isn’t it always the way that no one calls you all week but at 9pm on a Thursday they all decide they want a chat. Lock the front door, stop anyone strolling in and settle down to watch in peace. A simple routine that sometimes involves a pint of ice cream!

Lets hear yours!

Take it easy! ;-)

I do a little maratone for Grey’s every week. I watch it live stream every Friday, yes, because it’s past midnight in Brazil when it’s aired in East Coast of USA. So I have to stay awake, even though I have classes starting at 8 am on Friday morning.
That’s when I watch it for the first time. As english isn’t my native language, I don’t get ALL the things they say, mainly the technical conversation at the hospital, sometimes I don’t get it at all! I have to wear headphones so I get the words more easily…
So, next day I wait for the subtitled episode, yes, because we have a HUGE Grey’s Anatomy community who record every episode, translate every line and subtitle the whole thing for those poor who can’t understand English(and I just love those guys!). Then I watch it again, subtitled this time. Sometimes, more than once!

And yesterday was the season premiere in Brazil! So, of course, I am watching everything all over again! Pretty addicted, aren’t I?? haha!

PS: I love my security word: Robbins! ^^

    Metriosity reply on November 11th, 2009 09:36:

@Lorena, Don’t worry honey, I am English and I don’t get the medical jargon ;-)
I think that is what is so awesome about Grey’s. No matter what country you are in, someone can empathize with a character, story or theme. It is so universal.

    Lorena reply on November 11th, 2009 09:43:

@Metriosity, Seriously, I use to say that GA’s characters are much more real than lots of real people I know! That’s why we relate to them. They have a history, a past, feelings, they grow, they’ve grown in front of our eyes for the past six years. And I just love to see that. =)

    Metriosity reply on November 11th, 2009 10:03:

@Lorena, Its like watching family. Albeit a slightly disfunctional one. But one I care about more than my own sometimes xD

I go up to my room, bring a bottle of water and a box of Kleenex just in case. I get my pillow and chair all situated and then I tell my family to leave me alone. I turn the sound off on my phone and lock my bedroom door. I get under the covers and do not come out until after Grey’s and PrP  I also tape it on satellite and watch it on CTV so I can see both the ABC and CTV promo for the next week! It is a great tradition! Oh and I text my friend at every single commercial and stop as soon as it comes back on! It makes stupid commercials go by a lot quicker! Can not wait for Thursday!

    Metriosity reply on November 11th, 2009 10:04:

@AmandaLand, Yeah too many commercials. They could use those 15 minutes to put in more of the stuff we love! Not commercials for tissues and candy. x)

    kidandkat reply on November 11th, 2009 11:41:

@AmandaLand, i text my friend during the commercials too! since we both love greys, if something amazing happens, i freak out and we text about it as soon as the commercials start. ;)

    AmandaLand reply on November 11th, 2009 11:48:

@kidandkat, awesome! I am glad I am not the only one

I don’t own a TV so I rely on either downloading or streaming the episode.

Usually, I begin the download on Friday morning before I leave for class. Then I reward myself by watching that afternoon post class (however for the last few weeks I have skipped the whole “class” part and just watched the episode instead). Then I phone my mom and we discuss.

Thursday nigth is the longest nigth for me. I live in Venezuela and epis always are behind, so since season 3 I download the episode and dependind of the time it end the downloading I watched it…several times then so I can get all the things they said (spanish is my native language). Of course, I watch when they aired the epi subtitled here in my country and I had bougth every season…Look like we’re a bunch of obssesive people…LOL

    Ah, Thursday tradition…

Well I always make sure I’m home by 8pm, even though I know that it starts at 9pm, I have to make sure everything is set up and ready to go by 8:50pm. I throw on my light blue scrubs, and yes, they are real, straight from the hospital scrubs, top and bottom, and I throw a blanket on the living room floor and watch. My phone goes on mute. I don’t even want to hear the phone even if I’m not going to pick up anyways. Then I watch Grey’s and PP in total bliss. And I watch live, and also record it so I can watch it again, and again, and again. I love my Thursday Grey’s tradition.

your thursday night is my friday night..well, afternoon actually but i get to watch it again friday night…then again saturday night rewatching my fave scenes. am i making sense?? lol!

Unlike most of you here, i only get to see greys at around 2pm, friday through live streaming at work….oh, yes so can you imagine how it’s killing me coz i get to watch like 5-10 mins every 30 mins coz i need to work. i know, you’ll ask me how i can do that but i can’t ‘not’ watch it coz the suspense of not knowing what’s going on is gonna kill me. i know i should wait so i can watch in full but i can’t concentrate at work if i don’t then as soon as i arrive home, i download the episode while watching it again through live streaming in full attention this time. often times rewatch the downloaded vid to check & then my fave scenes watching it over & over…& over again!!…i know i’m crazy!!! rofl!

@Leyy, hey im totally like you! which part of the world are you at?

I don’t go anywhere on Friday. Cause I live in Australia. It can be online from 1 hour after it finishes airing… to sometimes 4 hours after. Which is torture. I wish I could watch it live. That would be amazing. But I guess… I don’t have to watch any ads. So that makes me happier.

I hang around all day at home, and check online religiously. All whilst wearing my red ’seriously? seriously!’ or ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ shirt. When it’s up… I put in the headphones, lock the door to my room, and it’s just me and Grey’s for 42 minutes. Me in that world. Away. Escaping. In an amazing story that evokes such raw emotion. I cry, laugh, and SQUEEE a lot.

I keep all my episodes on my laptop until I am able to buy the box set. I have the whole of season 5 and season 6 to date so far :D It means that I can wait for Grey’s to be cheaper as well… cause I’m a broke uni student. Hehe.

But yes, I plan Fridays around Grey’s. It’s very rare that I won’t be at home waiting for Grey’s on a Friday.

I watch every episode on friday bacause I live in the Netherlands. so I watch it online somewhere on a site or something, and when It airs in my country (sometimes a half year later) I record it so I can watch it with subtitels. Really think it’s great to let everyone see that grey’s is still one of the best wached television program in the USA!!!

  11. Iris Says:

I live in the Netherlands too, so I have to wait till Friday. I get up very early, start downloading, and go back to sleep. I made sure I don’t have classes or work on Friday morning  By the time I wake up again, all my shows are finished. First I watch Grey’s, and after I usually have to go to class. On Friday evening I go to my mom for the weekend, and I watch it again on the train. And again on Sunday evening when I go back to my own apartment.
And I watch again when it finally airs on tv (next Monday is the 2nd part of the season 5 finale).
Oh, and I have the dvd’s too of course.

I live in the Netherlands as well… and I have my own little ritual on Friday!
I wake up a little earlier then usual, I start to download the episode and then I go to school. When school’s out I go to get my favourite sandwich ever at a delicatessen , take it home and watch Grey’s while eating the sandwich… <3
I seriously can't wait for the episode's to air, the season 5 finale airs on monday over here (though I do watch it, for the subtitles), and there's probably a winter break after that. And I buy the DVD's as well :)

I watche them online, in streaming then.. well.. and once again I watch them when they are released in Italy^^

When it airs in the US it’s 3 AM on friday where I live, in Sweden, and I have school in the morning so I would be dead if I stayed up watching it live on the internet. The last class I have is sports and it always goes by so damn slow! It’s like it never ends.. But as soon as it’s over I hurry home and watch it as soon as possible. I usally watch the eppy again during the weekend, and then I watch it when it’s on the tellie as well. Not only because Grey’s is awesome, but because I don’t want the ratings to fall just bacause I don’t have any self-control to wait only two weeks… And sometimes it’s hard to understand the medical jargon, so it’s good seeing the eppy with the subtitles as well.
