NASHUA, N.H. — More than two dozen Chihuahuas arrived at a Nashua shelter Wednesday night, thanks to the generosity of a TV actor.
The 25 Chihuahuas come to the state from shelters in the Los Angeles area. Actress Katherine Heigl of “Grey’s Anatomy” paid the thousands of dollars needed to transport the dogs.Officials with the Humane Society of Greater Nashua said the dogs are being shipped from Los Angeles because the area has an overpopulation problem from people buying the dogs as status symbols, rather than pets.The shipment is a collaborative project with the Salem Animal Rescue League, which will take five of the Chihuahuas. The Nashua Humane Society will take the rest.Officials said the Chihuahuas should be available for adoption on Saturday. (source)
