An interesting After Ellen article!

By Aussie Lee | December 14, 2009 |

Here’s a great read from over at After Ellen where they discuss the recent lesbian storylines in Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy.  Have a read of the start below and click on the link to continue to their site to read more.  I guarantee you it’s worth the read :)

Grey’s Anatomy has been getting a lot of attention from us lately for its portrayal of a healthy lesbian relationship between Callie and Arizona.

But we would be remiss not to acknowledge Grey’s spin-off Private Practice — and not just because it features one of our favorite icons, Kate Walsh, as Dr. Addison Montgomery.

Although PP doesn’t have a featured bisexual or lesbian character (that we know of), earlier this year the show featured a long-term female couple, one of whom had a stroke that, during the course of the episode, forced her to come out to her son.

The storyline was handled sensitively and reflected the experiences of many older lesbians who hid their sexual orientations while they raised a family.

Till next time,

    Great article!
The last two episodes of Private Practice were really overwhelming, I was very sad for Addison and all the situation between her father, her mother and herself. A lot of people is talking that they don’t understand why Addie was so upset when she found out about her mother, saying about her being homophobic and stuff. I didn’t see that! What I saw was a daughter really hurt for all the lies their parents told her, during the years. She felt betrayed, that’s totally understandable.

And I was thinking something (silly thing)… That Derek has a pattern to women: the most messy families, the best! lol! Addison’s family is almost as “twisty and dark” as Meredith’s! lol

Lorena, I agree. I think some people missed the complexity of the storyline. It wasn’t about Busy being gay, it was about them lying to Addie all her life and letting her feel guilty for covering up for her father. If Addie had known the truth sooner she might have had a better relationship with her father at least. Busy perhaps not. Great episode of PP, best yet. Kate Walsh deserves an Emmy nom for it.
