Episode 9.17 to 9.24: The Wreckage from “The Perfect Storm”

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

GA 9x17-9.24

I think we all saw this coming. We’ve been fans of this show for too long not to know how Shonda operates. No couple can stay happy forever — except, possibly Meredith and Derek. I mean, look at Callie and Arizona, even they are not safe from the drama. (Though they’ve avoided the full extent of “Shonda relationship drama” for a long, long time.) So, despite having a nice, long string of episodes where Cristina and Owen have been very much together and supportive of each other in the way that we’ve always wanted them to be when they were married.

Shonda on Grey’s Season Finale

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Hey Grey’s Army,

Shonda Rhimes has spoken! She chatted with the folks over at Entertainment Weekly about the fates of Webber, Calzona, and Crowen.

What she had to say about Richard:

So have we said goodbye to yet another member of our beloved team of doctors? “That’s such an interesting question! I love that people are asking that question,” Rhimes told EW last night at an event at the  Academy of Television Arts and Sciences that honored the second season finale of her latest hit drama Scandal. “I’m not going to answer it because I like that it’s a question. I will tell you that you will see Jim Pickens again, but I’m not going to answer the question.”

On the upheaval of Calzona:

Rhimes says, “I feel like a lot of LGBT characters on television — and I hopefully don’t fall into this category — are sort of sanitized for our protection. They are happily in love and they hardly ever do anything wrong and they never cheat and they’re never too sexual and they don’t have any other storylines except about them being gay. I felt like I wanted to give them a complex storyline that wasn’t about that.”

Discussing the end of Crowen:

“I think Owen and Christina have been on a very very long journey that’s been really complicated for both of them,” Rhimes says. “I feel like there’s a sense that this is the end of the journey that they’ve been on for two seasons that was sort of messed up by the fact that she was in the plane crash….they were finally forced to have the conversation that neither of them wanted to have and it was a very honest conversation. She walked away and he did not follow, so how they’re going to cope with that is going to be something.”

As per usual with Shonda, I have more questions than answers…

What do you make of what she said about Webber’s fate? How about her thoughts on the effects the plane crash had on Arizona? Do you feel like Crowen is really done or is Shonda going to leave that door open?

What say you???

McKidd on Crowen: It Ain’t Over

Friday, May 17th, 2013

How’s that Grey’s hangover, Gabblers?

Last night was quite the rollercoaster for all of the ‘ships but there was one ride that seemed to finally come to a gentle halt. At the end of the finale, Cristina walks away from Owen feeling that he needs more than just her (ie., kids) in order to be fully happy. Kevin McKidd spoke about Crowen’s future and he seems to still have hope that his character will reunite with Cristina, one way or another.

Do you think this is really the end of Cristina and Owen?
McKidd:
I don’t know, but I doubt it. I doubt it because whether they ever are together again, there’s so much connection and history between them that they’re always going to have some kind of relationship. It’s almost like people who are parents, if they break up, they’ll always be connected by that thing. Owen and Cristina have been through so much that those things will never go away. I know Owen is going to feel a lot of yearning and be heartbroken for quite some time. The sad fact is that Owen and Cristina are in a good place. I don’t think it’s the end for them, it’s just another turn in their very complicated relationship. In a strange way, this is Cristina showing how much she cares for this guy.

What do you all think? Is there any possible way for Cristina and Owen to reconcile the different things they desire in life? Is this the final stop for these two or is there hope that Crowen will ride again?

Yours in Grey’s, Pam Fier
