Shonda Finally Speaks Up About Heigl Scandal

That’s right: Shonda Rhimes has finally broken the silence regarding Katherine Heigl’s exit from the show.
In Sunday’s installment of Oprah’s Next Chapter (9/8c, OWN), Oprah Winfrey asks Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes about Heigl’s controversial decision in 2008 to remove her name from Emmy consideration because she did not feel she was “given the material to warrant a nomination.”
“On some level it stung and on some level I was not surprised,” Rhimes tells the Big O, adding, “When people show you who they are, believe them. I carry that [mantra] with me a lot. It has served me well.”
