Crowen recap 10 x 13 “Take It Back”
The premiere of 10B, I have to admit, was a lot better than some of the boring and blah episodes that we got in 10A. This episode was written by Austin Guzman and directed by Rob Corn.
Cristina and Owen only had one scene in the entire episode and it was a group scene at the end of the episode. However, it seems over the next few episodes, we will see a lot of Crowen scenes. Yet, despite the absence of Crowen scenes, what was most interesting was Owen’s behavior towards resident Shane Ross throughout the entire episode.
We begin where we left off at the end of the winter finale at April and Matthew’s wedding, where Jackson stands up and declares his love for the bride. Not surprisingly, our bride runs away with Jackson, leaving everyone else to pick up the pieces of what just happened.
When we first see Cristina, she seems somewhat amused as she walks in to a highly charged argument between Meredith and Derek. She notes that April’s weeping sisters have used every tissue in the building. Meredith asked if Cristina got the mother to calm down.
Cristina says that she tried but she found it hard to pretend that what happened was not the coolest thing she had ever seen. “I have always been on the fence about Kepner but now I’m not just a friend, I’m a fan.” Meredith rolls her eyes and gives Derek a look of disgust and leaves in a huff.
Cristina, having just made up with Meredith in the winter finale, asks worriedly if that is about her. Derek assures that it was about him as the President called and he has to go back on a promise he made to Meredith.
Cristina queries, “The President?”
Derek confirms that it is indeed the President of the United States. She can’t believe that he is serious. Then, her phone buzzes and they find out that something is going on at the hospital.
The scene switches to the hospital outside Jimmy Evans’ room, where Alex and Owen are having a heated argument. Both Leah and Jo are also there. Alex naturally wants Ross fired for botching that surgery on his dad. He screams that he wants Ross fired and/or arrested. Owen assures him that Webber is watching his father like a hawk and that his vitals are stable and they were going to do their best to keep it that way.
Webber, who had been in the room, doing an examination on Jimmy, comes out of the room to join the group. Owen asks him what the hell was Ross thinking. Webber says that he wasn’t thinking and that he was hallucinating that it was Heather Brooks on the table.
Leah interjects that Shane had shown her how to fudge their hours on the system so they could continue working without having to sleep. She says she is going to find him and runs off.
Owen tries to make things better by saying that Cristina was on her way. Alex counters that Yang is not touching him. “If that kid is messed up, it’s on her. She lets him think that he runs the place. Why do you think he hacked up Jimmy’s heart all on his own?” Owen says they should wait until they get all of the facts.
Alex screams that Cristina is screwing Ross. The news hits Owen like a bomb. The look of shock on Owen’s face is evident. (Remember that. It is going to be important, later.)
It is now three weeks later. It is Ross’ first day back. It seems that he may have been on suspension and that the board has allowed him to come back. Owen comes rushing through the ER doors with a paramedic who says that there was a MVC pile up at the waterfront.
Ross stands in a doorway, unable to move. Avery shouts at him that he needs hands. Owen yells at Ross to stay where he is because he plans to supervise him, today. Owen orders Stephanie to go with Avery. But then he remembers that she can’t go with Avery since he humiliated her at the wedding. He tries to sends Ben Warren, who is working with Webber, who complains that they can’t break up the team of the “Big Dogs.” (I just love how Webber is referring to himself and Ben as the “Big Dogs”. Though, it doesn’t seem like Warren was too happy about it.) ...
S10E13 – Take It Back
It’s with a happy heart and the largest, goofiest grin that I eagerly welcome you Gabblers back from what was easily THE longest winter hiatus we’ve ever endured! As with most dreadful downsides, there is always a silver lining that emerges and because of ABC’s season programming schedule, we can all thoroughly enjoy the next 12 episodes non-stop, with zero weekly interruptions or reruns! I’d say that’s a great outcome, wouldn’t you agree Gabblers? How does the saying go? Good things come to those who wait? :)
As with most Grey’s mid-season premieres, there was no shortage of drama or surprises which definitely kept the viewers on the edge of their couch cushions and made the one hour fly by quicker than you can count how many flings Alex had back in seasons 1 through 4. That said, let’s get to it!
Within the first 3 minutes of the episode, it was revealed who April chose to run off into the sunset with and I’m guessing a large chunk of the Grey’s fandom was pretty pumped with her decision. Turns out she and Jackson, (after Aprils’ brief ‘hold-the-phone-are-we-doing-the-right-thing-here’ meltdown moment) run off to Reno to elope! Not so fast kids. Instead of celebrating their newly made nuptials with the rest of the GSMH gang, they decide to hold off and keep their relationship a secret for the time being. How and when do you think they’ll share the news with the rest of their colleagues?
Meanwhile, Stephanie is still pretty bummed that Jackson humiliated her in front of pretty much everyone she knows and leaves her hanging high and dry after he runs off with April. She and Leah have a heart to heart, where Stephanie confesses to Leah that she had a feeling something wasn’t right when Leah jumps to her defense and accuses Jackson of taking advantage of the situation, being their boss and all. In fact, Leah goes as far to say Arizona did the same thing to her. Clearly Leah, or Bitter Betty as some would call her, still has unresolved issues with Arizona and hints at Stephanie she’s got something up her sleeve. More on that later…
Alex’s father Jimmy dies after desperately holding on for dear life, in hopes of seeing his wife and kid before he passes. Alex attempts to patch up things with Jimmy and his wife, only to see his wife wants absolutely nada to do with him. In Jimmy’s final moments, Alex puts Jimmy’s mind at peace and lies to him about how his family really feels about him. Not long after Jimmy passes, Alex erupts into a true Alex-rage and beats the living daylights out of Shane for botching Jimmy’s surgery. Luckily Meredith and Cristina stepped in just in time before Alex completely destroyed him! Side note, did anyone besides me get a little teary-eyed seeing Alex and Meredith’s hug-it-out moment?
Speaking of Shane, after taking a week off to recuperate from his mental breakdown after Jimmy’s surgery, he’s back in the saddle… er, operating room, making baby steps to move on from his mistakes. Unfortunately, Owen is none too pleased with him and refuses to make his transitions back into the OR an easy process after he gets wind of Shane’s recent sexual “run-ins” with Cristina. Hmmm, Owen. Jealous much?
Alex and Jo are still in lovers paradise when Alex starts referring to her as his fiancée which in turn, freaks Jo out. Jo doesn’t recall Alex actually popping the question and when she confronts him on her uneasiness of moving things along too quickly, Alex lashes out and tells her to forget the whole thing if she’s not fully in. Over the course of the episode, we see Jo’s comforting efforts take hold of Alex and when she gets word that Alex’s father has passed, she’s right by Alex’s side, supporting him like the good girlfriend (or fiancée) Alex desperately needs.
Ben is back and joins the likes of the light blue scrub-wearing clan only after he and Miranda have it out at the top of the episode over his true reasons for leaving his LA-based surgical program. News flash Bailey: He did it because he wanted to spend more time with you! Ah, newlywed bickering at its finest!
Callie and Arizona are off to a rocky start at the top of the episode when Arizona reveals to Callie their apartment didn’t feel like her home, being a constant reminder of her amputation and the resulting recuperation she’s endured over the last several months. Have no fear Calzona fandom! The three-week time jump reveals the two decide to put an offer in on a house (or a murder house, as Callie called it!) that needs a little TLC in an effort to start fresh and move forward as a couple. Can we say, housewarming party!?!?
Meredith and Cristina are officially back to normal and boy are we glad to see it! Unfortunately just as Mer and Cristina get back on track, the path Meredith and Derek are taking becomes a little bumpy. Meredith doesn’t hide she’s miffed at Derek for having pursued an opportunity that the White House has presented to him, shortly after he told Meredith he’d take a back seat to Meredith’s efforts of focusing on her career. Throughout all of this, the White House is investigating a $3,500 monthly payment Derek has been making to a family of a former high school hockey pal he left permanently paralyzed after a hockey accident Derek caused. Something tells me we haven’t heard the last of this storyline just yet.
At the end of the episode, it’s revealed that “someone” mysteriously filed claims with HR that prompts the board to hold an emergency board meeting to discuss a policy that will directly affect a key relationship on the show. A zero-tolerance policy regarding relationships between superiors and subordinates will be going into effect immediately. Fortunately, pre-existing married couples (IE: Arizona and Callie, Miranda and Ben, and Meredith and Derek) are excluded however Alex and Jo will need to put a rush on where exactly they stand with one another as a couple. Also, it looks like Jackson and April will have to tell everyone about their elopement a bit sooner than they had planned.
